Our Mission

For many girls, education is not just a human right. It’s a way for them to feel human. At Jaugram Sopan, women empowerment isn't just a buzzword; it's a fundamental aspect of our mission. While we prioritize educating girls about their health and rights through initiatives like " Ak Din Ak Ghanta Samajer Jonya" we go a step further by creating tangible opportunities for economic empowerment.

  • Improving learning outcomes.
  • Creating child centric learning environment.
  • Community engagement.
  • Capacity building of community leaders as well as teachers.

With the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across states and schools, Jaugram Sopan has aligned itself with the evolving educational landscape. While the fundamental objective of empowering girls and nurturing them into confident young women remains unchanged, we are now equipping girls studying in class VI to X with essential 21st century skills and sports leadership skills training, empowering them not just for today, but for the future.

Our History

The ten villages around Jaugram in Jamalpur (SC) Constituency, Purba Bardhaman—Badpur, Tengaberia, Kandur, Atpukur, Bejpukur, Jajanpur, Jaugram, Astai, Kalupukur, and Kulingram—are dominated by tribal and Dalit populations. Literacy remains below 60% in many areas despite government schemes like free books, uniforms, cycles, and scholarships. Poor teacher-student ratios, lack of trained staff, weak learning processes, politicisation, poverty, and absenteeism prevent children from progressing to higher studies. For tribal children, schooling is especially difficult: they walk long distances, juggle family responsibilities, cannot afford study materials, and face curriculam that ignore their cultural context. Many villages lack roads, electricity, and schools, isolating them further.

Dalit communities—Bauri, Bagdi, Cobbler, Dom, Namosudra—face entrenched caste discrimination, poverty, and exclusion from health, housing, and education. They often live in isolated slums, suffer exploitation as vote banks, and remain trapped in debt bondage. Atrocities against Dalits are frequent and mostly unreported, leaving them with little opportunity to escape systemic oppression. Without education, Dalit children risk bonded labour, early marriage, cultural abuse, and hopelessness, perpetuating cycles of inequality and deprivation.

Jaugram Sopan seeks to break this cycle by targeting tribal and Dalit children in remote villages where access to education is poorest. By providing learning opportunities, the organization aims to empower children with dignity, equality, and freedom. Education can open doors to opportunities otherwise denied, enabling them to rise above oppressive caste and socio-economic barriers, and to participate meaningfully in society with confidence and hope.
